I had finished high school (finally) and had deferred my university entrance by six months. I was 18 and on top of the world! We lived next door to my granddads best mate “Buck” Rodgers. They grew up together, had gone to Vietnam together and started business together. They became very wealthy from their efforts. My granddad pass away when I was young, so Buck became my substitute granddad.

Mum and dad had a trip overseas for 8 weeks to celebrate turning 40 and being married for 20 years. I was to join them in the last 2 weeks on a coach tour of Spain. I was looking forward to that. Mum gave me strict instructions about the house and friends etc and warned me Buck was the boss and was watching. I said you don’t have to worry … I have no friends except you, dad, Buck and Moose (the Mastiff)
